While in Austria we took a day to venture out to the iconic Hallstatt, a small town at the edge of lake Hallstatt, at bottom of the Dachstein slopes. We loved it! We traveled there by train then ferry. While there we rode a cable car up to explore the Salzwelten salt mines and beautiful views.

The Salzwelten salt mine was definitely an unforgettable experience! The underground tunnels were fascinating, sliding down the wooden miner slides was so much fun! The light show deep inside the mountain over a mirror-like pool of water was really cool. We all put on mining suites so we could slide down the slides more easily. At the end we rode a slow mining cart that led us out near the salty stream.

Afterwards, we enjoyed a stroll through the town, shops, and ate a traditional schnitzel & stroganoff dinner. The girls found a swan that was interested in their food and tried following us through town as well.

It’s a beautiful place worth seeing!

Savoring up our last week in Austria- Phil and I had a picnic dinner, and we took advantage of a few more scenic family bike rides.

It has been another unforgettable experience that left our girls in tears when it came time pack. Even Phil and I had our heartstrings pulled at the thought of leaving such a beautiful place. We will always cherish our time here, but we must continue our adventures!
